Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was held on Sunday, 29th November, 2015 at the Keble Memorial Hall.  The primary choir and staff choir also sang during this service.  In addition, the choir of S. Thomas' College, Gurutalawa also sang a special Sinhala carol.  Most Rev. Dr. Winston Fernando, Bishop of the Diocese of Badulla delivered the Christmas message.

Vani Vizha

The Annual Vani Vizha celebrations took place on 17th October 2015 at the Keble Memorial Hall.  Mrs. S. Kesavan, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Arts and Culture, Eastern University of Sri Lanka graced the occasion as the chief guest.

 


 

Teachers' Day

The Teachers' Day was held on the 6th of October 2015.  An eye and ear clinic was conducted. Students organized a felicitation ceremony followed by lunch.

 


 

Career Guidance Workshop

The Career Guidance Council of S. Thomas’ College Bandarawela Old Boys’ Association has facilitated students with a Career Guidance workshop and Gavel club programme providing career paths, career opportunities in Information Technology, Banking, Accountancy, Toastmasters and youth leadership.

 


 

Children's Day

The Children’s Day was celebrated on October 2nd, 2015 with many leadership and personality building games and activities. A magic show, an eye clinic and a lecture by Mr. B.G. Nisal Perera a psychotherapist, counsellor and life coach on “Modern Society and the Child”.

 


Teacher Reciprocal Visit - UK

Mrs. Rifaya Samoon from S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela visited Chancel Primary School, UK in September 2015 to gain international experience.  The teacher's reciprocal visit to the UK was sponsored by the British Council.


 

Kalai Vizha Programme

The Kalai Vizha programme was held on the 4th of July, 2015 at the Keble Memorial Hall. This event included many students who participated in songs, drama and dance.

Prof. Thurai Manoharan, Retired Head of the Tamil Department, University of Peradeniya graced the occassion as the Chief Guest.

Connecting Classrooms Programme

Mr Mark Brandon and Miss Aimee Darnley, two teachers from Chancel Primary School, UK were warmly welcomed to STC Bandarawela as a part of the British Council Connecting Classrooms programme where a cultural event took place at the Keble Memorial Hall on June 29th, 2015.

 


 

Annual Prize Giving

The Annual Prize Giving was held on Friday, June 19th, 2015 at the Keble Memorial Hall. 

Air Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Mrs. Roshani Gunatilleke graced the occassion as the Chief Guests.

Bakthi Gee Recital

The Bakthi Gee Recital was held at the Bandarawela Town Hall on June 5th, 2015.  The students and staff perfomed numerous songs amongst a large gathering of Buddhist clergy, students, parents and well wishers.

 


 

Meelad-Un Nabhi Celebration

The Meela-Un Nabhi Celebration was held at the Keble Memorial Hall on Saturday 30th June, 2015.  The Chief Guest was Dr. M.F.M. Fairoz, Academic Head, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Ocean University of Sri Lanka and Dr. Mrs. Fairoz.

SINGER-SLSCA award presentation – U19 tournament 2015

The SINGER-SLSCA award presentation ceremony for players and schools involved in U19 D1 tournament 2014/15 was held at the BMICH on May 28th, 2015 with Parliamentarian and Minister of Ports & Shipping, Arjuna Ranatunga, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

S. Thomas College, Bandarawela was awarded the best cricket team in the Uva province.

Uva Thomian Cricket Encounter

The Uva Thomian Cricket encounter between STC Gurutalawa and STC Bandarawela was held on Saturday, 16th May, 2015 at the MC grounds, Bandarawela.  The chief guest was Hon. Sanath Jayasuriya former Sri Lankan cricketing star and a current member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

STC Bandarawela won the match and carried away the S. L. A. Ratnayake - Patrick Gunawardene Trophy for the 3rd consecutive year.

 


 

Mapiya Pranama Pooja

To commemorate Vesak, the Buddhist Society of S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela organised the “Mapiya Pranama Pooja” on the 11th of May, 2015.  The Venerable Massanne Vijitha Thero preached at the Keble Memorial Hall where many students and parents were present.

Easter Musical Worship

The Easter Musical Worship was held at the Church of Ascension on the 7th of April 2015. The primary and senior choir along with members of the school band took part in this musical worship.

Primary School Concert

The primary school concert was held amongst a large gathering at the Keble Memorial Hall on the 13th of March 2015. The chief guest was Dr. (Mrs.) Neelika Dissanayake, Consultant Paediatrician, Base Hospital, Diyatalawa. The Bishop of Colombo and Chairman, Board of Governors, Rt. Revd. Dhiloraj Canagasabey and the Archdeacon of Nuwara Eliya, Ven. Philip Nesakumar were guests of honour.

 

The children of the primary school displayed their talents through song, dance, poetry, drama and entertained the audience.

 


Annual Inter-house Sports Meet

The Annual Inter-house Sports Meet was held on the 25th of February, 2015 at the Municipal Grounds, Bandarawela.  The chief guest was Revd. Dushantha Rodrigo, Headmaster, S. Thomas' Preparatory School, Colpetty.

English Day

The English Day was held on January 24th at the Keble Memorial Hall. Dr. V.V. Medawattegedera, Head of the Department of Language Studies Open University of Sri Lanka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The Audio Visual Unit sponsored by the Batch 99 OBA was handed over to the Headmaster Rev. Fr. Christopher Balraj.

The 73rd Founder's Day

The 73rd Founder's Day - Holy Eucharist Service was celebrated on January 20th by Revd. Fr. Christopher Balraj, the Headmaster followed by an Art Exhibition and a general assembly where H.N.D. Liyanage was appointed the Head Prefect and S. Divyapradiv was appointed the Deputy Head Prefect.

A Leadership programme for the prefects was conducted by the Old Boys' Association (OBA).
